Digital Scrapbooking: Interactive Scrapbook Pages

Digital scrapbooking is the only way I've ever heard of to create a scrapbook that has interactive elements. Physical scrapbooks have their charm, it's a meaningful and important physical object that you can store on a shelf, and take it off and share with your guests. Digital scrapbooks may not be physical objects, but you can share them with those close to you all the same.

You have so many less limitations working in the digital medium. But some would argue that having no physical constraints has its downsides. A lot of people lament the fact that its harder to do interesting and meaningful things with texture when you are working with a digital scrapbook. This is true to some degree, textures suffer from less tactility than their real life counterparts, but texture is just as meaningful in the digital scrapbooking arena. Matching textures has more to do with visual cues than with aspects of depth and perspective. With attention to detail, you can create visuals that are just as stunning.

Less limitations means more creativity. The added ability to create dynamic and interactive elements in your scrapbook adds a lot of depth to the process. Sound, video, and animation can bring your scrapbook to life. Try not to overdo it though! Overuse of certain techniques really cheapens the affect that they have. Try to only use them when it makes absolute sense to do so, and try not to get carried away.

You can make a certain photo appear or rotate, transform, when you click or mouseover some other element. The reader can follow directions to feel more engaged in the process of viewing your scrapbook. It makes the whole thing less passive, and pulls the reader in! What digital scrapbooking lacks in tactile appeal, it makes up for in its breadth of other features, important among them, interactivity. I hope I've given you some ideas to get you started creating interactive digital scrapbooks for your favorite memories!
